Sacred Heart RC Primary School

together we live and learn, we play and pray

Year 6

Welcome to the planet's coldest lands...vast wilds, hostile territories, incredibly beautiful, yet often deadly.  Take shelter from the elements or fall prey to icy winds and deepest chill as we dig deep into our Spring theme, 'Frozen Kingdom'.

English themed activities over the term will include writing a letter, a short story narrative, a non-fiction text and a personification poem.

In D.T/Art, we will be creating artwork using a range of materials. We will also be creating model display work based on the Titanic.

Over the term, the children will participate in whole class reading sessions.

Weekly spelling sessions (Tuesday – Thursday) will continue.

Maths lessons will follow the revised Year 6 curriculum and include focused arithmetic sessions.

Homework
There is an expectation that children will read at home daily either with an adult or independently.  Their diaries will be regularly checked by the class teacher.  This will need to be briefly recorded i.e. date, title and pages read.
Children should also regularly improve their times tables knowledge by completing sessions on Time Tables Rock Stars (the children’s log ins are available from the class teacher should we require a reminder).

Spelling homework will be given on a Tuesday.  In Year 6, this is an activity related to learning part of the Year 5 and 6 spelling list. The children will then partake in a random weekly spelling test on a Friday.

Further classroom Information
PE kits need to be in school all the time please.  Our P.E days will usually be Thursdays; however, this may be subject to change.

School water bottles are welcome in school at all times- please ensure these only contain water unless other arrangements have been made with the class teacher/ head teacher.

I will, as always, work my hardest to ensure that the children continue to have a happy, productive and successful Year 6.

Please don’t hesitate to speak with me at the end of the school day if you have any concerns or issues.

Thank you for your continued support.
