Welcome to year Two!

English

Our English work this term will be inspired by our Theme topic 'Kings and Queens', our first book will be Rapunzel. We will be using this book to write a description of a castle, a fairy tale and a non - chronological report of Queen Elizabeth.

Theme

We are going to be starting the term with the topic 'Kings and Queens', we will be learning about some significant kings and queens from our past and why they were important. After that we will be learning about significant women, learning why they were important to our past.

Science

Our first Science topic of the year is 'Healthy me'. We will be finding out how we exercise and why it is important for us.

Art

The children will be working towards illustrating a story, the children will be finding out about texture and how to show expression in characters.

Design and Technology

In DT, the children will be designing and making a ferris wheel.

RE

To start the term, in RE we will focus on Judaism. We will be learning about Shabbat, what it is and why it is special.

Supporting your child at home

There is an expectation that children will read at home daily. Please ensure that you note what has been read in your child’s reading diaries and send these to school every day. A member of the Year Two teaching team will check reading diaries regularly and a reward system will be used to help children celebrate the books they have read.

Other classroom Information

Please avoid bringing backpacks into school. Please ensure that your child has their water bottle and book bag in school every day. Children need to wear PE clothes on Tuesday. Please make sure that it is appropriate for the weather for outside lessons.
