Year 2

Welcome to year Two!

English

Our English work this term will be inspired by our Theme topic ‘Women in History’ and ‘Our wonderful world’. Through this we will be reading books including 'The fixer of broken things’, ‘Dear Earth’ and 'Journey'. We will be learning about the features of a variety of texts and then writing our own pieces, this will include a biography, letter and narrative.

Theme

This term we will be working on two topics, the first is ‘Women in History’ where we will be learning about inspirational women in history including Rosa Parks, Amelia Earhart and Edith Cavell. For the second half of the term we will be starting the topic ‘Our Wonderful world’ where we will be learning about the continents, where the equator, north and south pole are, as well as how to use a compass.

Science

Our first Science topic of the term is ‘Squash, bend, twist and stretch’. We will be exploring the shapes of objects and how they can be changed, investigating and reporting our results as we go. We will then move onto ‘Our local environment’ where we will be studying living things, habitats and the best conditions for plants to grow.

Art

The children will be working towards creating a collage within Art, they will be looking at texture and how to create it, as well as effective ways to collage.

Design and Technology

In DT, the children will be designing and making a monster book.

RE

Our RE unit this term is ‘Galilee to Jerusalem’. We will be focussing on John the Baptist and his preaching. We will also focus on baptism and its meaning.

Supporting your child at home

There is an expectation that children will read at home daily. Please ensure that you note what has been read in your child’s reading diaries and send these to school every day.

Other classroom Information

Please avoid bringing backpacks into school. Please ensure that your child has their water bottle and book bag in school every day. Children need to wear PE clothes on Tuesday. Please make sure that it is appropriate for the weather for outside lessons.

Thank you for your continued support. I am sure we will have a fantastic year and have a lot of fun (there will be a lot of work as well).
