Physical Education
Subject leader: Mrs E Longden
ur intent at Sacred Heart is that all children have the opportunity to lead physically active lives. We aim for all children to have the opportunity to take part in a range of PE and sports activities both in and out of school. We feel it is crucial that all children increase their understanding of the importance of leading a healthy and active life and for them to develop their physical and mental well-being. We intend to deliver high-quality teaching and learning opportunities that inspire all children to succeed in physical education and in developing life skills.
Pupils at Sacred Heart participate in two high quality PE lessons each week, covering two sporting disciplines every half term. In addition, children are encouraged to participate in a varied range of extracurricular activities. Lunchtime sports clubs are available each day and children can attend after-school sports clubs. Children are invited to attend competitive sporting events within the local area. This is an inclusive approach which endeavors to encourage not only physical development but also mental well-being. To improve children’s ability to swim, all Year 4 children complete a 10-week swimming course. Those children who do not achieve 25m then complete additional swimming sessions in Year 5 and 6.
We endeavor that all children leave Sacred Heart with a positive mindset regarding sport and physical education and that they have learnt the necessary skills to take responsibility for their own health and fitness.
