Home Schooling during School Closure

Dear Year Five,

I hope you’re all well and keeping safe with your families!

I have been thinking about you a lot and hope you’re behaving nicely and enjoying the extra time with siblings if you have them and with the people that you live with. Things do seem very different at the moment but it’s important that we all do our best to stay positive and keep busy. It’s strange how we may be bored staying at home and not going out but I think we need to remember what we’ve been learning in school- Anne Frank lived in an attic for two years not being able to make any noise, not having any phones or computer platforms etc. I try to remember this when I feel annoyed that I can’t go out as I usually would.

School has been quiet, there have been some children each day but it makes it much quieter than usual as we only use a couple of rooms. Something they’ve enjoyed each day is the Joe Wicks workout online- it’s really good and gives a decent wake up.  They’ve also been doing the workbooks we sent home and have found these really useful. Remember there is an answer scheme for the reading that was in your pack. The answers for the other books are at the back so you can check them and work out any mistakes if you’ve made these. Remember- we can learn from our mistakes 😊 . If you have any questions about the work books or generally ask your parents to email any queries to the office and I’ll try to get back to you that day!

Remember what we said in class about starting a diary. I’ve been thinking a lot about that and trying to do so. I was talking with some staff and we were saying about how in 20, 30, 40 etc years time, this period of time may well become a school topic that children will learn about. You may find yourselves speaking in a class about the experiences of being off school etc like when Jean came in to visit us.

I’ll be phoning each of you next week to see how you are and to see what you’ve been up to. Please have an idea of a few things you’ve done to tell me- school related or not, it’s up to you.

If you need to contact me during school closure please email me on year5@sacredheart.peterborough.sch.uk

Above all, enjoy the times with family, be good and stay safe!
