Year 4
Summer Term
Welcome back Year Four! I hope you all have had a wonderful Easter break, and you are ready for our last term in Year Four. Our class team is looking forward to welcoming you back and sharing their knowledge with you.
This term, we will be completing our work on the Amazon and starting our final topic all about the USA! We will be continuing to look at the effects of deforestation and how this affects the lives of the people who live there. In our USA topic, we will be exploring the states of the USA, key landmarks found in the USA and focusing on the specifics of the Grand Canyon and the Niagara Falls.
In English, we will be using the knowledge from our topic lessons and the books “The Explorer” by Katherine Rundell and “Native American Stories for Kids” by Thomas Pecore Weso to create incredible pieces of writing in different genres.
In Maths, our topics for this term will be decimals, money, time, shape, statistics and position and direction.
In Science, we will be learning all about electricity and in RE, we will be on the topic To the Ends of the Earth.
Spellings
The children will be given new spellings every Monday, with a spelling test on the Friday. Please make sure your child practices their spellings every day.
Reading
Children will be bringing reading books home and it is still really important that the children are reading every day. The expectation is for the children to bring in their reading record every day and every Monday, we will be logging children’s reading in school.
Times tables
The times tables expectations for Year 4 are that they know all the facts for rapid recall. This means recall of 5 seconds. Each child has a log on to TT Rockstars to practice the multiplication and division facts.
Homework is added to TT Rockstars every Monday and we will be checking it on the following Monday. Please ensure your child spends 5 to 10 minutes every school day making sure they are increasing their tables fluency.
PE
Our PE days are Tuesday and Wednesday. On these days, we are asking the children to come into school in their full PE kit, including trainers.
Please can all children make sure they have a water bottle with them each day; they are welcome to fill their bottle up throughout the day at school.
The Year Four team will be working hard to ensure the children have a happy, productive and successful term. If you have any questions, please email these to schooloffice@sacredheart.peterborough.sch.uk and these will be forwarded to us and we will get back to you.
Thank you for your continued support. We are looking forward to working with you all.
